Roll Ball

Roll Ball is a dynamic and engaging sport that combines elements from various traditional games, creating a unique and exciting gameplay experience. Invented by Raju Dabhade in India in 2005, this sport has grown in popularity, with an international federation overseeing its development and competitions worldwide.

Basics of Roll Ball

Objective: The primary goal of Roll Ball is to score goals by rolling a ball into the opponent's net. Players use their hands to control and pass the ball, while they move around the court on roller skates.

Playing Area: The game is played on a rectangular court with dimensions of approximately 28 meters in length and 15 meters in width, similar to a basketball court. The court includes a goal at each end, similar to those used in handball.

Teams: Each team consists of 12 players, with 6 players on the court at any given time – including a goalkeeper. The remaining players serve as substitutes.

Rules and Gameplay

  1. Starting the Game:

    • The game begins with a face-off at the center of the court. The referee drops the ball between two opposing players who then vie for possession.
  2. Ball Handling:

    • Players must roll the ball by hand, dribbling similarly to basketball, but on roller skates.
    • Passing can be done with one or both hands, and players can move the ball while skating to maintain control.
  3. Scoring:

    • A goal is scored when the ball is successfully rolled into the opponent's net.
    • Each goal is worth one point, and the team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
  4. Duration:

    • A standard Roll Ball game is divided into two halves, each lasting 20 minutes, with a 10-minute break in between. However, the duration can vary depending on the level of play and specific tournament rules.
  5. Penalties:

    • Physical contact is limited, and players can be penalized for fouls such as pushing, tripping, or obstructing an opponent.
    • Penalties can result in free throws, temporary exclusion of the offending player, or even a penalty goal for the opposing team.
